Woad Items for Sale

                           Shalom and Welcome to Our Shop!

At this time we have decided not to have ordering on demand, with you choosing, then adding to a cart and proceeding to the check out.  We are limited with a small work force to fill orders promptly right now.  We are open to suggestions, but for now we are looking to find those who either would like to volunteer their time, or even earn an income tying tzitziot. Please see our 'We need Help" page for more information.

We will be using PayPal's invoice method for now.  This way you will not be paying until your order is made and ready to send out.  Use our 'Contact Us' page to initiate your order and we will begin to make this for you.  When it is ready, an invoice will be emailed to you, for you to pay. Thank you for your patience as we begin to grow and learn!

We have learned that the most economical way to mail most of our products is to use a bubble wrap envelope sent in standard letter mail.  This is very reasonable and can accommodate 4 sets.  In order to do so, your plastic bags of tzitziot or strings may be taped to the inside of the envelope so that they don't slide.  If they slide, they make the package thicker and invalid for letter mail.  You will save up to $20.00, with this method.

We are hoping you will find what you need here, but if you don't, please feel free to request your own design.  We would be happy to do custom designs and custom cutting of strings.  For quite varied custom designs, we will make one up and send a picture to you, for your approval.
Please understand that the lengths of the strings and tzitziot are approximate because the strings stretch and the plaitings may have varied tensions. The resulting tassel strings are trimmed to be 1/3 of the plaiting, rather than to a set measurement.

Supplies of linen cord, from the manufacturer, can be limited and may not always be available, as they actually run out for the year!  At this time the linen is considerably more expensive than the cotton.  We can get a significantly lower price for the linen, if there is enough interest for it.  It would be expensive, and mean we would be purchasing a, one time, large order, that would last us years!  However, it would bring the price down about 75% from what we pay now.  Please let us know of your interest in linen to us, so we will know if it is worthwhile to pursue this.

At this time we have not tried wool, but we hope to begin testing this when we find a suitable cord.

Price Comparison of the Candidates of Hand Dyed Tekhelet;

This is a very brief and condensed comparison of the cost of the other candidates of hand dyed tekhelet strings.  The comparison is made based on 4 tekhelet blue strings per tzitziot, as would be needed for a set of four Traditional Karaite Tzitziot, requiring 16 tekhelet blue strings in all. For the details of the comparison, see our 'Price Comparison' page.

Washing Instructions;

Woad is colour fast and will not bleed on to other fabrics.  It may fade slightly over several washings.  However, we do suggest you use care with washing these items to preserve the crispness of the cotton and linen strings and to prevent fraying.  Hand washing is recommended using warm water, with a mild soap or detergent.  Do not use bleach.  Do not use prolonged or vigorous agitation, to prevent fraying.

Our Products;

We invite you to click on the pictures to see a much clearer image of the Woad products!  You will notice, particularly in the pictures of the skeins, that the Woad dyed strings are thicker.  This is because the dying process shrinks the cotton and thickens it a bit.  The strings of woad are cut to size after dying and the thickness does not show up in the plaiting.  This is useful to know if you are pairing other coloured strings with the Woad strings, in that similar, but not exact same thicknesses should work too.

Custom # 4, Cotton medium, plain tzitzit, with one string of Woad Blue

I.  Custom # 4

This is a custom cotton medium, plain tzitzit, with one string of Woad Blue.  This is a different style, using only one blue string. This size may be used under shirts for those who have jobs for which having tzitziot on the outside poses a danger of getting caught on machinery.  Use common sense as to whether the risk of danger is not avoidable and therefore do not use any tzitziot at these times.  The bottoms of the tassels will have a small knot in each string to prevent fraying.

If you wish to tie this for yourself, the pattern for tying is 30 - 25 - 1.  Align all strings together and then find center.  Go back 1 1/2 in, or 4 cm. from center and fasten a twist tie there. Start plaiting 30 times from there, then remove tie and begin to plait both ends of what you just plaited, together for 25 plaits.  Finish with a simple knot.  Woad Blue and white skeins are for sale above.  See 'Tying Tzitziot' page for instructions for tying.
